For a hundred years, America built the greatest food supply the world has ever seen. What it never built was a way to see inside it. The truth about what is in our food, and what it does to our bodies, did not exist in a form anyone could use. Not for families. Not for doctors. Not for the people writing the rules.

So we built it. Now that truth belongs to everyone. Knowing what is in our food is not a question of left or right. It is one of the few things nearly all of us agree on. And we are ready to work alongside anyone who shares that belief: lawmakers, agencies, researchers, and advocates on every side.

How we work

WISEcode does not take positions on partisan questions. We measure the food supply using one consistent, documented method across nearly a million products, and we make that measurement available to anyone writing or implementing policy. Officials across the political spectrum are asking the same question: what is actually in the food, and how do we know? That question has one answer, not two.

Federal

From Washington, DC, we engage Congress and federal agencies on questions at the center of food policy: how ultra-processed food is defined, how processing is measured, and what standards apply to federal nutrition and procurement programs. We provide technical analysis to committees and agency staff, model how a proposed definition would apply across the actual market.

State

States are the fastest moving arena in food policy. We work with legislators, governors’ offices, and state agencies on bill drafting and technical review, fiscal and market impact analysis, school and institutional nutrition standards, and implementation after a bill becomes law.

Local

Cities, counties, and school districts set purchasing standards that shape what millions of people eat every day. We support local officials and district administrators with product-level analysis they can apply to procurement, menu standards, and vendor requirements.

Regulatory

Legislation is only the first step. We work through the rulemaking process where definitions are operationalized: comment submissions, technical guidance to implementing agencies, compliance frameworks, and the measurement infrastructure that makes a standard enforceable rather than aspirational.

International

Food standards diverge sharply across markets. The same product can be restricted in one country, promoted in another, and unclassified in a third, with no shared basis for comparison. We work with governments, ministries, and multilateral bodies to apply a consistent measurement method across borders, so that standards can be compared, harmonized, and enforced against composition rather than category.

Coalitions & Institutions

We work with the national organizations that convene state and local officials, along with public health institutions, academic researchers, industry groups, and advocacy organizations. Our role is to supply a common factual baseline that different parties can use, whatever conclusions they reach from it.
