Seed Oils & Artificial Dyes Under Fire: A New Way to Know What You Eat
Apr 30, 2025
It seems like everyone is talking about seed oils and artificial dyes over the last few weeks. While these ingredients have been hot topics for debate in the United States for a while, the FDA and RFK Jr. poured fuel on the fire after announcing their intention to ban petroleum-based dyes and making it a mission to remove seed oils from American diets.
A few major brands like PepsiCo, General Mills, and Mars have reacted in kind, though they did not fully endorse the ban. Whether it’s out of the goodness of their hearts or a marketing opportunity, we’ll let you decide.
But, even though PepsiCo has already started making moves to remove synthetic dyes by introducing Simply Ruffles Hot & Spicy (colored with tomato powder and red chili pepper), the product still contains seed oils.
Yesterday, we shared the perspective on the six artificial dyes being phased out and how it kinda feels like Big Food is tossing us a bone so they can keep using the other sketchy stuff that makes food look pretty and last forever on shelves.
Yeah… that’s not gonna cut it.
Instead of relying on slow-as-molasses policy changes and backdoor deals that give brands loopholes, we created an app that lets consumers scan the foods they’re eating to instantly determine what ingredients are in them. The power is in your hands, not theirs.
